현재 문화재로 관리되고 있는 과거의 유산들이 그렇듯, 근현대사 자료에 대한 인식의 부족으로 인해 장래에 문화적인 가치를 지니게 될 소중한 미래유산들이 사회 곳곳에서 무방비 상태로 방치되어 훼손되고 있습니다.

필름은 개발 이후 120년 이상 사용되고 있는 현존하는 가장 우수한 기록 매체임은 분명하나 온도 및 습도 등의 영향에 쉽게 손상되는 성질을 가지고 있습니다.

세계각국은 유네스코의 ‘디지털 유산 보존에 관한 헌장(2003.10.15 선언)’ 이후 필름이라는 아날로그 매체로 기록된 소중한 유산에 대해서 공공유산으로서의 디지털 유산이라는 공감대를 형성하고 유산소실 방지를 위해서 다양한 노력을 기울이고 있습니다.

우리나라의 통신전송, 영상제작 기술은 가히 세계최고라 말할 수 있습니다. 이는 또한 과거의 영상제작 방식이 디지털로 급속하게 전환되고 있다는 것을 의미합니다. 실제로 국내 영화계에 있어 2013년 ‘설국열차’를 끝으로 더 이상 필름방식으로 제작되는 영화가 없어졌으며, 국내의 모든 현상소가 필름을 버리고 디지털 시스템으로의
전환이라는 변화를 맞이하게 되었습니다.

‘기록문화보관소 FRD’는 해외의 앞선 디지털 복원 기술을 국내에 최초로 도입하여, 미래가치가 높은 기록물을 보존하고 복원하여 우리의 미래유산을 소중히 간직하고 후대에 물려주는 것에 설립목적을 두고 있습니다.

As other past heritages managed as a cultural asset, the precious future legacies which are to hold cultural values in the future are neglected and damaged around the society due to the lack of awareness regarding the modern and contemporary materials.

It is obvious that the film is the greatest recording medium in existence as used more than 120 years since it was developed but it also has a property of easily damaged as venerable to temperature and moisture.

Subsequent to the UNESCO Charter on the Preservation of Digital Heritage (announced on October 15, 2013), all the countries of the world are making numerous efforts to form a consensus that the precious heritages that were recorded by the analog medium of film are a digital asset of a public heritage and to prevent them from destroyed.

The communication transmission and image production technologies of Korea are the best in the world. This also means that the past image production method is drastically changing into the digital. After the ‘Snowpiercer’ in 2013, there is no movie produced with the film in the domestic film industry and every photo lab has abandoned the film, welcoming the transition to the digital system.

Accordingly, ‘Film Restoration Digitization (FRD)’ aims to introduce the advanced global digital restoration technology in the domestic industry firstly to preserve and restore the records that have the great future values so as to pass them down to the generations to come.
